Cole-Levenstein Residence
Beverly Hills, CA

This home in Beverly Hills was remodeled and expanded by the owner with a large second floor. The pool and terrace in the rear yard existed before however, I did modify the concrete decking by cutting it back in some areas to enlarge the garden. The garden has a spectacular view toward the ocean and canyon and I didn’t want to interfere with that and kept all the garden plantings low.

The Stipa grass and low catmint created a strong border that is barely 18” high. The concrete pots are rustic and modern at the same time with Scaevola ‘Blue Wonder’ spilling over the edges. To the side of the pool area I took all of the existing roses the owner had collected and arranged a rose garden off the living room. In the front yard, I planted a native grey grass (Leymus sp.) under the large existing Canary island Pines and the driveway became the front lawn with the use of interlocking turf block that allows cars to drive over the grass without injury.
